The Nocturn Industries “Manticore-Ruggedized” Ultralight Adaptable Night Vision Binocular (UANVB-FCR) is a full-featured articulating binocular system in a compact, lightweight, and ultra-rugged package.

The “Manticore” features a dual articulating design which allows users to operate the unit with either one or both eyes.  This is useful when operating a thermal optic or other passive aiming device while maintaining night vision on one side only.  This also allows the user to stow the pods comfortably against the helmet for a lower profile while in a vehicle or where head space may be limited.  Individual pods are powered off when articulated to eliminate backspash and protect the image intensifier tubes.

The UANVB-FCR “Manticore” is comprised of a simple, minimalist design, but without sacrificing features.  A full suite of digital controls is incorporated into the front of the unit which allows control of power on/off, digital gain control, and IR illuminator functions.  The buttons are tactical and have raised features for intuitive operation by feel.  Friction lock interpupillary adjustments allow the user to effortlessly set IP stop distances to their preference.  A durable, aluminum dovetail provides secure attachment to the user’s helmet mount.

Housing and Optics Information

The Nocturn UANVB-FCR “Manticore” is built using an ultra-durable, CNC-machined 7075-T6 & 6061-T6 aerospace grade aluminum and aerospace Grade 4 titanium housing.  It exceeds MIL-STD-810H and IP-68 ingress and durability specifications.  Power is supplied by a single CR123A battery, which allows up to 25 hours of continuous use.  A supplemental “LEMO” port provides external power for even longer operating times.  The “Manticore” housing is available in Matte Black, Coyote, and OD Green H-Series Cerakote finishes. 

High-quality Carson Mil-Spec objective lens and eyepiece optics are used standard and provide excellent image quality and light transmission.

Rochester Precision Optics (RPO) ultralight objective lenses and eyepieces are available as an upgraded option.  RPO optics are approximately 20% lighter weight than standard Mil-Spec optics without any sacrifice of image quality. 

All units are professionally assembled, nitrogen-purged, and thoroughly tested.

Image Intensifier Tube Information

This Nocturn UANVB-FCR “Manticore” is available with the following Image Intensifier Tube options:

• L-3 Harris Unfilmed 20UA Filmless White Phosphor, 2000-2376 FOM
• L-3 Harris Unfilmed 20UA Filmless White Phosphor, 2376+ FOM

All units are built using high-quality, meticulously-selected, brand-new image intensifier tubes.  All image intensifiers we use are “Grade-A”, meaning they have the most stringent spot (blemish) tolerances. 

L-3 Harris filmless tubes perform well in all conditions, but especially in rural or very dark environments.  Typically filmless tubes will have higher average performance specifications on their data sheets that comparable thin-film tubes, and produce an excellent image.

All L-3 tubes we use are “UA” designated, which means they are “Aviation” grade and provide L-3’s most stringent spot tolerances.
