The Nocturn Industries “Katana” Ultralight Adaptable Night Vision Binocular (UANVB) is the lightest weight binocular in Nocturn’s adaptable series of night vision devices.  It is rugged, ultra-lightweight, and compact. 

The “Katana” features a dual articulating design which allows users to operate the “Katana” with either one or both eyes.  This is useful when operating a thermal optic or other passive aiming device while maintaining night vision on one side only.  This also allows the user to stow the pods comfortably against the helmet for a lower profile while in a vehicle or where head space may be limited.  Individual pods are powered off when articulated to eliminate backspash and protect the image intensifier tubes.

The UANVB “Katana” is comprised of a simple, minimalist design.  A single push button on/off in the battery cap reduces weight and size, and automatic brightness control adjusts gain to the appropriate levels without user input.  Friction lock interpupillary adjustments allow the user to quickly and easily set IP stop distances to their preference.  A durable, aluminum dovetail provides secure attachment to the user’s helmet mount.

Housing and Optics Information

The Nocturn UANVB “Katana” is built using an ultra-durable polymer housing which exceeds MIL-STD-810G and IP-68 ingress and durability specifications.  Power is supplied by a single CR123A battery, which allows up to 25 hours of continuous use.  A supplemental “LEMO” port provides external power for even longer run times.  The “Katana” housing is available in Matte Black, Coyote, and OD Green H-Series Cerakote finishes. 

High-quality Carson Mil-Spec objective lens and eyepiece optics are used standard and provide excellent image quality and light transmission.

Rochester Precision Optics (RPO) ultralight objective lenses and eyepieces are available as an upgraded option.  RPO optics are approximately 20% lighter weight than standard Mil-Spec optics without any sacrifice of image quality. 

All units are professionally assembled, nitrogen-purged, and thoroughly tested.

Image Intensifier Tube Information

This Nocturn UANVB “Katana” is available with the following Image Intensifier Tube options:

• Elbit Systems USA Thin-Film White Phosphor, 2000-2376 FOM, "Grade A"

All units are built using high-quality, meticulously-selected, brand-new image intensifier tubes.  All image intensifiers we use are “Grade-A”, meaning they have the most stringent spot (blemish) tolerances. 

Elbit thin-film tubes perform well in most conditions with minimal ambient light.  These tubes are an excellent value, produce a great image, and are more affordable than L-3 tubes.  They work exceptionally well in urban environments with some ambient light.
